Koreans in U.S. Welcome DPRK's Proposal for Opening Great National Meeting for Reunification
Pyongyang, July 4 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Federation of Koreans in the U.S. in a statement on June 30 said that the danger of a war is increasing as the inter-Korean relations have reached the phase of acute confrontation and the situation on the Korean peninsula is so tense that a war may break out any moment.

Against this backdrop in an open letter sent to the authorities, political parties, organizations and individuals in south Korea and abroad, reflecting the will of Koreans for independent reunification, the north proposed to open a great national meeting attended by Koreans overseas and from the north and the south before and after August 15 this year marking the 71st anniversary of Korea's liberation, the statement said.

It highly appreciated the north's will to put an end to the history of division and strive harder than any others to realize the desire of Koreans for creating the history of reunification, history of national prosperity, calling on all Koreans including those in the south side to accept the north's proposal without any condition.

The will of the north represents that of Koreans as it clarified the willingness to have candid, face-to-face meeting with anyone irrespective of political view, religious belief and ism if it is helpful to the improvement of the inter-Korean relations and the settlement of reunification issue, it noted.

It called on all Koreans overseas and in the north and the south to dynamically pave a venue to independent reunification under the uplifted banner of national independence, the banner of great national unity.
