Pyongyang, July 8 (KCNA) -- The Turf Branch Institute under the State Academy of Sciences in the DPRK has recently bred new species of turfs which are highly resistant to cold, drought, disease and shade. Among them is a cold-seasonal turf, which is rather fast in growing with rhizome and dark green leaves. Another one has been applied to greening the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu, Ryanggang Province of the country, as it was acclimated to bitter cold of the northern highlands which are over 1 000 meters above sea level. They remain verdant for 280-300 days a year. The new species are originated from locally plants and cost low in cultivation and their technical indices reach the advanced level, said Jang Yong Il, a section chief of the institute. |
