Spokesman for General Association of Koreans in China Calls for Holding Great National Conference for Reunification

Pyongyang, July 11 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the General Association of Koreans in China in a statement on July 4 recognized the DPRK's proposal to hold a great national conference for reunification in Pyongyang or Kaesong before and after August 15 as the most timely and fair patriotic call for reunification in the light of the demand of the present situation and the Koreans' will for reunification and fully supported and approved it.

If the great national conference for reunification is held, constructive opinions and reasonable ways can be discussed in a candid manner to defuse the present extreme confrontation and to bring about a turning phase in carving out the nation's destiny, and the Koreans' movement for independent reunification will be put on a new orbit, the statement said, adding:

If the south Korean authorities have an iota of national conscience, they should roll back the good-for-nothing policy of confrontation with the nation and come out to the venue of the great national conference for reunification in August in conformity with the compatriots' aspiration and the demand of the era.

The members of the association will take active part in the great national conference with August 15 as an occasion and dedicate themselves to the patriotic struggle to open up a broad avenue to independent reunification.
