Co-chairmen of the preparatory committee elected there were Guy Dupre, president of the France-Korea Friendship Association; V. A. Petrov, chairman of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK; Christer Lundgren, chairman of the Sweden-Korea Friendship Association; and Anders Kristensen, chairman of the Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association.

A notice on the formation of the committee said:

The European Regional Preparatory Committee for the 2017 Meeting Praising Great Persons of Mt. Paektu will widely organize the work for revving up the atmosphere to celebrate the 105th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, the 75th birth anniversary of HE Kim Jong Il and the fifth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Un's election as supreme leader of the DPRK.

It will let people in European region positively launch solidarity activities to smash the false media propaganda about the DPRK in the West including the U.S. and their hostile moves and to support the cause of the Korean people for peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula.

It will let organizations in the European region for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people form preparatory committees for celebrating the Day of the Sun and the Day of the Shining Star in 2017 and grandly organize colorful political and cultural events and widely introduce the successes achieved by the people in the DPRK under the wise guidance of HE Kim Jong Un who is successfully carrying forward the cause of the preceding leaders.
