New High-yield Species of Fruit Trees Bred in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- The Pomology Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science in the DPRK has bred some 160 high-yield species of fruit trees in recent five years. The new species include grape, persimmon, jujube, walnut and chestnut as well as apple, pear, peach, plum and apricot. Their fruits are big and very delicious. They are highly resistant to coldness and diseases. Among the species are peach and apricot that ripen even in autumn and the grape of which the cluster weighs more than one kilogram. Crataegus pinnatifida and mulberry which are used for making medicines ensure rich harvest. |
