In the past Olympic Games, the DPRK athletes won 47 medals including 14 golds.

Ri Ho Jun brought home the first Olympic gold medal by renewing the world and Olympic records in a small-bore rifle shooting event of the 20th Olympic Games.

In the 21st Olympic Games, Ku Yong Jo defeated his American rival in the men's 54 kg boxing final.

Kim Il became twice Olympic gold medalist in wrestling of the 25th and 26th Olympic games. Meanwhile, Ri Hak Son, Pae Kil Su, Choe Chol Su, Kye Sun Hui, Pak Hyon Suk and Hong Un Jong bagged gold medals in wrestling, pommel horse, boxing, judo, weightlifting and vault events.

DPRK athletes also proved successful in the 30th Olympic Games.

An Kum Ae and Rim Jong Sim won gold medals in the women's judo 52 kg category and the women's weightlifting 69 kg category. And Om Yun Chol jerked 168 kg in the 56kg category of men's weightlifting to renew the Olympic record, while Kim Un Guk set a new Olympic record in the snatch of the men's 62kg category and a new world record in total points.
