Recalling the strong criticism of Park rang out from the candle-light rally held in Songju County on Wednesday, the editorial said such unilateral decision on THAAD deployment can be made only by a dictatorial regime.

The regime's scenario to isolate the Songju County from the public by making much fuss over "undesirable outside forces" came to a flop in actuality, it said, adding:

Inhabitants of the county launched a movement to inform the White House of the public opinion that THAAD should never be deployed in any part of south Korea, to say nothing of the county. Such voices are even heard in Ullung Island and Tok Islets.

The retraction of the deployment plan has become a task of all south Koreans aspiring after peace on the Korean peninsula.

In view of the situation, Park should personally meet the county residents, not calling for sacrifice for people's security.

What Park should do now is to properly understand the public mindset.
