The league was developed into the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League in January, 1996.

It is guided by Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism as the political reserves of the Workers' Party of Korea which holds President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il in high esteem forever, organizationally and ideologically united around Marshal Kim Jong Un as the only center.

It also regards it as its main mission to carry forward and accomplish the cause of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and the cause of the Juche revolution under the leadership of Kim Jong Un.
