National Sports Contest of Workers Opens

| Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- A national sports contest of workers opened with due ceremony at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street on Wednesday in the run-up to the 56th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of the Songun revolutionary leadership. In the contest, which will run through August 26 in various gymnasiums here, the participants will compete in football, shooting, Taekwon-Do and hurdle-overcoming race. Present at the ceremony were officials concerned, officials of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea (GFTUK), citizens, players and coaches selected in provinces. Ju Yong Gil, chairman of the Central Committee of the GFTUK, made an opening address. At the end of the ceremony, there were Taekwon-do team pattern competitions. |
