It is the historic mission of the nation to put an end to the tragic division and achieve the reunification of the country, the statement said, and went on:

The present colonial regime feels proud of its pro-Japanese and pro-U.S. acts, far from reflecting on them, and is engrossed in evil deeds against the nation and reunification, bringing dark clouds of war threatening the destiny and existence of the nation.

It turned down the proposals for inter-Korean military authorities' talks and the joint conference made by the north to avert a nuclear war on the Korean peninsula, terming them ones for "creating discord in south" and a "camouflaged peace offensive without sincerity."

In order to avert a war and protect the destiny of the country and nation it is necessary to eliminate the pro-U.S. regime and thoroughly implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

The statement called on all Koreans to achieve reunification and independent sovereignty by their concerted efforts.
