The sacred patriotic tradition of the Korean youth was created by young vanguards and guerilla fighters who carved out the Korean revolution and waged the bloody anti-Japanese armed struggle under the leadership of President Kim Il sung.

The President aroused all the patriotic young people to building a new country by rallying them under the banner of democracy after the country's liberation from Japan's colonial rule and inspired them to immortal feats during the Fatherland Liberation War.

In the periods of the postwar reconstruction, the great Chollima upswing and the socialist construction, he led young people to taking the lead in all struggles and thus glorifying their proud history and tradition.

Leader Kim Jong Il set forth the slogan "Love the young people!" and had shown boundless loving care for them, calling them the reserve combat unit and detached force of the Supreme Commander and the eternal companions of the Workers' Party of Korea.

In the period of the Arduous March, the forced march, he personally named a highway "Youth Hero Motorway" to convey the feats performed by its young builders to posterity and put forward those, who dedicated their all for society, the collective and comrades, as the paragons of the Songun era.

He also set the foundation day of the Young Communist League of Korea as the Youth Day (August 28) and saw to it that the youth league is shined with the august name of the President.

Supreme leader Kim Jong Un has encouraged young people to perform great feats in all fields of building a socialist power and prepare themselves for the vanguard fighters of the revolution.

Whenever he meets soldiers of the Korean People's Army, he has had photo sessions with them.

And he highly praised the patriotic devotion made by members of the youth shock brigade in building the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station as a symbol of youth power.
