Its participants will compete in various events including basketball, volleyball and table-tennis in gymnasiums, stadiums and sporting parks in Pyongyang and provinces.

Present at the opening ceremony were Choe Thae Bok, vice-chairman of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, officials and players in the field of public health and teachers and students of Pyongyang Medical College of Kim Il Sung University.

At the end of the ceremony, there took place a men's volleyball game between the Academy of Koryo Medicine and the Choe Kyong Thae Endocrine Institute.

The contest will last till Sept. 2.
