Social Scientific Seminar on U.S. Aggressor Ship General Sherman Held
Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- There took place at the Sci-Tech Complex Wednesday a social scientific seminar to mark the 150th anniversary of the sinking of the U.S. aggressor ship General Sherman.

It was attended by officials, teachers, researchers, lecturers, journalists and editors in the fields of science, education, media and preservation of revolutionary relics and national heritages.

Explaining in detail how the U.S. aggressor ship General Sherman intruded into Korea in 1866, speakers said that the intrusion of the ship was a brigandish invasion of Korea.

They went on:

The patriotic and self-sacrificing struggle waged by service personnel and civilians of the walled city of Pyongyang to sink the ship recorded a shining page in the modern history as a struggle through which the Korean people beat back the U.S. first invasion of Korea.

The intrusion of General Sherman was a prelude to the history of the U.S. imperialists' invasion of Korea. The U.S. imperialists' invasion of Korea and the struggle of the Korean people against it and the confrontation between Korea and the U.S. have continued for the last 150 years.

The history of this confrontation can be characterized by the ever-victorious history of the Korean people and the history in which the U.S. imperialists sustained repeated defeats.

It is impossible to expect peace on the Korean peninsula and in its vicinity as long as the U.S. persists in its hostile policy towards the DPRK to establish military control over the whole of Korea and seize hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region.

Speakers demanded the U.S. immediately respond to the DPRK's fair and aboveboard proposal for replacing the armistice agreement with a peace treaty and withdraw its forces and nuclear weapons from south Korea.
