The history of its smooth development is associated with the devoted efforts of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il for the cause of human independence.

Penetrating into the position and role of the NAM in realizing global independence, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il had worked heart and soul to develop this movement.

In the 1970s when the imperialists intensified their moves to disintegrate the Non-Aligned Movement from within, Kim Il Sung authored "The Non-aligned Movement Is a Mighty Anti-Imperialist Revolutionary Forces of Our Times" and other celebrated works to give a scientific exposition of problems arising in dynamically advancing it as the powerful revolutionary forces in the era of independence.

He disclosed the imperialists' wicked scheme for weakening and stamping out the NAM and clarified the ways for foiling such attempt.

The President also conducted his energetic external activities for the strengthening of the NAM and its victorious advance, even touring African countries.

In June Juche 82 (1993), he made an address "Non-aligned Information Should Contribute to the People's Cause of Independence" at the 4th meeting of information ministers from non-aligned countries held in the DPRK and guided the NAM to preserve its character and purity and enhance its position and role in keeping with the rapidly changed international political situation in the 1990s.

Leader Kim Jong Il published "Let Us Strengthen Friendship and Solidarity with the Newly-emergent Countries" and other works to strengthen the unity of the NAM and other anti-imperialist independent forces. He stressed the need to further develop the NAM as the mainstay of the independent forces.

In his report to the 7th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the DPRK, said that the Non-Aligned Movement should take its proper position and fully discharge its mission as a powerful anti-war, peace-loving force and that the movement should be strengthened for global independence.

Cherishing the undying feats of the great leaders in their mind, the DPRK people will as ever strive to strengthen the NAM and build an independent, new world.
