President Kim Il Sung led the country and the people, holding the top post of the country for a long period.

Under his leadership the DPRK beat back the U.S. which boasted of being the "strongest" in the world in the Korean war, honorably defended the sovereignty and dignity of the country and successfully carried out the postwar rehabilitation and construction and socialist construction of several stages.
