It brought together more than 690 players selected from universities across the country including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology and Pyongyang University of Architecture. They will compete in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, handball and swimming events.

Present at the opening ceremony were officials, teachers and students of relevant fields and various universities.

Thae Hyong Chol, president of Kim Il Sung University and minister of Higher Education, made an opening address.

At the end of the ceremony, there took place basketball, volleyball and table tennis matches.

The contest goes on until Sept. 27.
