The north-south summit took place and a declaration for improvement of the north-south relations and peace and prosperity was adopted in Pyongyang on October 4, Juche 96 (2007).

The declaration gives clear answers to the basic and realistic problems arising in the movement for national reunification including the issue of improving the inter-Korean relations and achieving durable peace of the Korean peninsula and the issue of realizing multi-faceted cooperation and exchange between the north and the south including economic cooperation in the idea of By Our Nation Itself.

The publication of the October 4 declaration marked a historic event of the nation as it powerfully demonstrated the steadfast will of the Korean nation for reunification at home and abroad and brought about a turning phase in national reunification, the editorial says, and goes on:

The cause of national reunification is now facing a grave obstacle and trial due to the U.S. and south Korean puppet authorities' anti-DPRK confrontation moves.

The reality requires all Koreans in the north, the south and abroad to turn out as one and resolutely smash the U.S. and south Korean group of traitors' frantic confrontation ruckus against the DPRK and bring about a turning phase of independent reunification by preserving and implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

Obstacles and ordeals still lie in the way of national reunification, but nobody can block the Korean nation advancing towards reunification by following the great sun of the nation.

The cause of national reunification is sure to triumph thanks to the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration clearly indicating the way for independent reunification and the inexhaustible strength of the Koreans firmly united in the idea of By Our Nation Itself.
