He clarified the principled stand of the DPRK as follows, saying that the committee's position and role are important in ensuring the successful implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda which was adopted on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations last year:

First, all member nations' right to independent development should be respected in order to ensure successful implementation of the sustainable development agenda.

In order to realize the sustainable development goals set forth for the promotion of welfare for humankind, it is an issue of top priority to end high-handed and arbitrary practices that pose political, military and economic pressure and threat to other countries while antagonizing their political systems guided by unilateral standard and concept, and to create peaceful environment.

Second, the course of the implementation of the sustainable development agenda should be oriented toward the promotion of development of national economy of each country and toward the establishment of fresh international economic order.

The present reality requires international financial organizations including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization not to tolerate the monopolistic position occupied by a handful of specified countries but to fully ensure the representative right of developing countries including newly emerging economics.

In this context, bigger care should be given to sustainable development of countries and peoples in the least developed countries, inland or island countries and those countries which are locked in disputes or under foreign occupation with an emphasis put on relieving inequality among countries in implementing the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

The DPRK representative said that a definite precedence is being given to science and technology in the DPRK and firm push is given to the construction of a socialist economic power in reliance on the strength, technology and natural resources available in the country.

The DPRK government will as ever strive hard to get rid of the old international order and establish fair and righteous international economic relationship and actively contribute to the international efforts to attain the goals set forth at the new sustainable development agenda.
