The university is the nation's well-known center for training medical talents as it has greatly contributed to demonstrating the advantages of the socialist healthcare system and developing the Juche-oriented medical science.

President Kim Il Sung established the nation's first medical college in Hamhung City on October 15, Juche 35 (1946).

Leader Kim Jong Il gave instructions to train a lot of able physicians by improving the quality of teaching as required by the mission of the university and showed such loving care as making sure that an e-library was built.

A meeting took place on Friday to mark the anniversary.
