DPRK RCS Hits Strategic Targets for 2016
Pyongyang, October 19 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Red Cross Society (RCS) has hit the targets for its strategic plan up to 2016.

In this regard, KCNA had an interview with Ri Chung Bok, chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK RCS.

Recalling that the Congress of the DPRK RCS in 2012 adopted its strategic plan to be carried out by 2016 under the changing situation and the 2020 Strategy of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Ri said:

To attain its prospective goals, the RCS paid special attention to preventing disasters and raising its capability for emergencies.

It has improved the country's ecological environment and environmental sanitation through a vigorous drive to disseminate the knowledge about first-aid treatment and conduct the hygienic information service and education aimed at preventing various diseases and coping with unexpected outbreak of diseases.

The Society also established sewerage networks for several thousands of dwelling houses to reduce the incidence rate of diseases by water in residential areas.

Meanwhile, many achievements were made in improving the living conditions for children and women, solitary old persons and disabled persons and strengthening the activities of young RC volunteers.

And the Society has stimulated the public interest in the RC activities through close cooperation with mass media and social organizations.

Its exchange and cooperation with IFRC, the International Committee of the Red Cross and others have been further strengthened, Ri said.
