It reviewed the implementation of the 2012-2016 strategic development objectives and annual action plans since its 2012 Congress and discussed the issues arising in expanding and developing humanitarian activities of the Society.

Present there were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, members of the Central Committee of the Society, RC officials in central and local areas, RC volunteers and young RC members.

Present there on invitation were representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and RC Societies of Denmark, Finland and UK, diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations here, members of a delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and a delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working in the DPRK.

Yang Hyong Sop in his congratulatory speech said that the RC Society has successfully carried out its mission and role under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il and Marshal Kim Jong Un.

He expressed belief that the Society will as ever make big progress in the noble humanitarian activities, hoping for successful congress.

Boris Michel, delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and Christopher Staines, delegate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in their addresses expressed their will to further strengthen the international cooperation, saying that the DPRK Red Cross Society has carried out the work to realize the fundamental principle of the red cross and red crescent movement in a responsible way.

The congress heard a report.

The reporter said that in the period under review the Society has fully implemented the leadership role to make sure that RC officials and volunteers carried out their responsibility and duty in conformity with the changed circumstances and condition and the requirement of objects helped by the RC Society.

He underscored the need to defend and preserve and glorify the feats of the great leaders and develop the RC Society into humanitarian organization.

Then followed speeches.

The congress reviewed the fulfillment of the budget of the society in the period under review and modified the rule.

It also discussed the strategic plan and budget till 2020 and elected members of the new guidance organ.
