S. Korean Police Tries to Perform Autopsy of Paek Nam Gi's Body, Checked by People's Resistance

Pyongyang, October 27 (KCNA) -- According to reports from Seoul, south Korean people from all walks of life launched strong resistance against the puppet police troops trying to forcefully perform an autopsy of Paek Nam Gi's body on October 23. From the morning the police thronged the funeral venue at the Hospital of Seoul National University to carry out a forcible autopsy. The puppet security authorities urgently hurled 80 odd detectives into the hospital and deployed more than 800 riot police in areas surrounding the hospital under the pretence of coping with "accidental situation". A lot of citizens, students and other people stood against the police with resolute will to check a forcible autopsy outside the hospital. The Headquarters of Struggle for Paek Nam Gi held a press conference at which they declared to protect Paek Nam Gi in every way and by all means. On October 24, the headquarters declared "36-hour campaign" to check autopsy of Paek Nam Gi's body. A delegation of the headquarters in the morning of the day held a press conference and head-shaving event to check the autopsy in front of the funeral venue at the Hospital of Seoul National University. Present at the head-shaving event were a co-representative of the Solidarity for Progress, the chairman of the General Association of Stall Keepers, the acting chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions, the chairman of the Catholic Peasants Association, the chairman of the Democratic Workers' Association, etc. The delegation decided to simultaneously carry out hunger-strike during the campaign. Meanwhile, opposition parties of south Korea launched resistance all at once against the riot police' violence. On October 25, the police mobilized the Jongro Police Station of Seoul to perform an autopsy of Paek's body, but failed in the face of the strong resistance by the bereaved family members and people of different social standings. Following the expiry of the validity of the warrant of autopsy, the fascist authorities are trying to request a warrant of autopsy again while deploying more than 1,000 troops including 100-odd detectives and nine companies of police in the surrounding area of the hospital. Citizens from all walks of life are now waging over-night sit-in hunger strike at the entrance to the hospital after additionally building barricades. |
