Gyula Thurmer, chairman of the Hungarian Workers' Party, was elected chairman of the committee.

The committee decided to give wide publicity to the revolutionary career and exploits of Kim Jong Il and hold significant political and cultural events including a lecture and film show on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of his demise.
