6th Congress of DWUK Held
Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- The 6th Congress of the Democratic Women's Union of Korea (DWUK) was held in Pyongyang Thursday and Friday.

The Congress reviewed the successes and experience gained in carrying out the cause of the party and the cause of building a powerful socialist country after the 5th Congress and discussed tasks and ways for the revolutionary women's organization to creditably discharge their mission and duty in implementing the decision made by the 7th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).

Present there were Choe Ryong Hae and Kim Ki Nam, vice-chairmen of the C.C., the WPK, leading officials of the C.C. the DWUK and delegates who were elected at the conferences of the women's union at all levels.

Party and administrative officials of relevant fields and a delegation of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan and a delegation of women officials of the General Association of Koreans in China attended the congress as observers.

The Congress approved the following agenda items:

1. On the review of the work of the Central Committee of the DWUK.

2. On the review of the Central Auditing Commission of the DWUK.

3. On renaming the women's union.

4. On the election of the central guidance organ of the women's union.

5. On the revision of the rules of the women's union.

Conveyed at the congress was a letter "Let Us Further Intensify the Work of the Women's Union under the Banner of Modeling the Whole Society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism" sent by supreme leader Kim Jong Un to the participants in the 6th Congress of the DWUK.

Introduced there were floral baskets, congratulatory messages and letters sent by women's organizations and figures of political and social circles of different countries and international bodies on the occasion of the 6th Congress of the DWUK.

Kim Jong Sun, chairwoman of the Central Committee of the DWUK, made a report on the first agenda item.

The reporter said that Kim Jong Un sent the letter to the participants in the 6th Congress of the DWUK, thereby providing important guidelines for developing the women's union.

The period since the 5th Congress of the DWUK is the proud days when it has successfully performed its mission and duty true to the idea and leadership of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu.

She called on the DWUK to perform its mission and role as the Party's transmission belt and dependable assistant in building a powerful socialist nation and accomplishing the cause of the Juche revolution in heart response to the decision made at the 7th Congress of the WPK.

The heads of a delegation of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan and a delegation of women officials of the General Association of Koreans in China made congratulatory speeches.

Then followed speeches on the first agenda item.

A congratulatory group of the Korean Children's Union recited a congratulatory poem presented to the Sixth Congress of the DWUK.

A decision on the first agenda item was adopted.

Ri Yon Ha, chairwoman of the Central Auditing Commission of the DWUK, made a report on the second agenda item.

The third agenda item was discussed.

A decision to rename the women's union the Socialist Women's Union of Korea was adopted.

Then there was a discussion on the fourth agenda item.

The congress elected the Central Committee and the Central Auditing Commission of the DWUK.

The contents of the decision of the First Plenary Meeting of the Sixth Central Committee of the DWUK were made public.

Kim Jong Sun was elected chairwoman of the C.C., DWUK and Cha Hyon Ok, Kim Myong Suk, Son Myong Ae and Chae Chun Hui were elected its vice-chairwomen.

An organizing committee of the Central Committee of the women's union was created.

Department directors of the C.C, the women's union were appointed.

The results of the election of the chairwoman and vice-chairwomen of the Central Auditing Commission of the women's union held at the First Plenary Meeting of the Sixth Central Auditing Commission of the women's union were made public.

The fifth agenda item was discussed.

A decision on the revision of the rules of the women's union was adopted.
