The chairman of the Gampaha Branch of the Sri Lanka Society for Self-Reliance Studies who doubles as vice-chairman of the Sri Lanka-People's Korea Friendship Association, was elected chairman of the committee.

The committee decided to organize political and cultural functions to praise the noble career and exploits of leader Kim Jong Il on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of his demise.
