Brisk Activities for Protection of Disabled Persons in DPRK

Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- A drive for protecting the disabled persons is getting brisker in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as the days go by. In this regard, Jong Hyon, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled, told KCNA that the disabled persons in the country take part in various social activities under the legal protection of their socio-political rights and interests in accordance with the people-oriented policy of the state. He went on: The Federation has worked hard to provide the disabled with more stable and favorable living environment and conditions, through various assistance activities and publication service. This year, a work was launched to reconstruct the Korean Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Disability and sanatoriums, fit medical institutions with modern recovery treatment facilities and introduce latest rehabilitation technology. And we have applied deaf-and-dumb subtitles to science film introductory documentaries and further improved the education of deaf-and-dumb alphabets. Also, a deep attention is paid to ensuring the cultural and emotional life for the disabled. There took place the 2016 spring and autumn table-tennis tournaments for disabled persons and amateurs in Pyongyang. And a number of Korean disabled persons attended the 15th International Para-Olympic Games in Brazil. Among them was Kim Chol Ung, who came first in the T11-12 category 5,000 meter race of the 4th China Open Athletics Championships-2016 IPC Athletics Grand Prix held in Beijing. The Federation raised the social concern about the disabled through operation of website "Huimang (hope)". Meanwhile, it has conducted many-sided and wide-ranging exchange and cooperation with international and national bodies of the world related to the disabled. |
