Attending the meeting were Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, and Tomohiko Murayama, chairman of the Nagano Prefectural People's Council for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, members of the executive committee of the meeting and representatives of solidarity organizations in different parts of Japan.

Present on invitation were officials of Chongryon including Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and Koreans in Japan.

After congratulatory speeches, a message of greetings from the Korean Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries was read out at the meeting.

Kenji Mizutani, general secretary of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, made a keynote report.

He exposed the injustice and illegality of the anti-DPRK campaign conducted by the US, Japan and south Korea and of the UN Security Council's "resolutions on sanctions" against the DPRK.

He stressed the need to strengthen solidarity with the Korean people and conduct vigorous activities supporting the friendship between the two countries and the reunification of Korea.

Several figures made speeches on the theme of "For the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula-exposure of the true nature of U.S.-Japan-south Korea military alliance" at the meeting.

The meeting adopted an appeal sharply denouncing the anti-DPRK moves of the U.S., Japan and south Korea and demanding the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea, the conclusion of DPRK-U.S. peace accord and the normalization of Japan-DPRK diplomatic relations.

In the meantime, an event was held on Nov. 18-19 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea.
