The KCNA is the only official mouthpiece for the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government which came into being and has developed under the care of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu and, it is a powerful media organ standing on the forefront of the party ideological work for realizing the cause of modeling the whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.

President Kim Il Sung founded the KCNA on Dec. 5, Juche 35 (1946) and indicated the theoretical and practical issues arising in building a news agency of new Korea. And he came to the agency several times and wisely led it to fulfill its mission and role as a mouthpiece representing and helping the Party and the government and a center for news service.

Leader Kim Jong Il put forward the KCNA in the van of effecting a drastic turn in media activities promoting the modeling of the whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism and showed deep political trust and paternal love for the employees of the agency, calling them as the disseminators of the great Juche idea and soldiers on an outpost of the Party's ideological front. And he energetically led the agency to preserve its revolutionary character as the news agency of the leader and the party and bring about a new turn in disseminating the greatness of the party and the leader and conducting media warfare against the enemy.

Over the past 70 years after its birth, the KCNA has recorded a history of loyalty under the wise leadership and deep care of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu and made great contributions to the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche by carrying through the Party's idea and policy of Juche-oriented news service.

A meeting was held Sunday to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the KCNA.

Present there were Kim Ki Nam, vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee, officials, journalists, editors and persons of merit in the field of media, and a delegation of the Korean News Service of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.

Read out at the meeting was a congratulatory message the WPK Central Committee sent to the journalists, translators and other employees and officials of the KCNA.
