The benefits from the social insurance system are fully guaranteed by law.

In his concluding speech "On Enforcing the Law on Social Insurance" made at the session of the Presidium of the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea in December Juche 35 (1946), President Kim Il Sung underscored the need to adopt the law on social insurance for improving health of workers, office workers and their families and stabilizing their livelihood.

The social insurance system includes the system of paying temporary allowance based on the length of service to workers and office workers unable to work due to illness, wound and nursing assignments for their family members, the maternity allowance system and the recuperation and relaxation system.

In recent years, the Yonphung Scientists Holiday Camp and the holiday home for farmers in Tongrim County were completed to meet the requirements of a highly civilized socialist nation. And many other holiday homes like the Ryongwon Mine Holiday Home and sanatoriums have been built or rebuilt at industrial establishments.

The DPRK government has steadily increased the state budgetary allocation to social insurance in keeping with the developing national economic power.
