DPRK Proves Successful at 1st Northeast Asian Taekwon-Do Championship

Pyongyang, December 30 (KCNA) -- The DPRK bagged 19 gold medals at the 1st Northeast Asian Taekwon-Do Championship. The championship took place in China on Dec. 16-18. It brought together more than 100 man and woman players from DPRK, Mongolia, Nepal, Turkmenistan and other countries and regions. Kim Kwang Chon of the DPRK won the title in the second-grade men's individual pattern, Choe Hyon Il in the third-grade men's individual pattern, Han Kwang Guk in the fourth-grade men's individual pattern, Kim Il Hwa in the second-grade women's individual pattern, Kim Un Hwa in the third-grade women's individual pattern and Kim Ji Hyang in the fourth-grade women's individual pattern. Ra Kyong Hun, Kim Kwang Chon, Choe Hyon Il and Ri Song Il placed first in men's individual 57kg, 64kg, 85kg and above 85kg sparring matches, while Kim Ji Hyang, Kim Un Hwa and Kim Il Hwa in women's individual 69kg, 75kg and above 75kg sparring matches. The DPRK came first in men's and women's self-defense matches. Choe Myong Chol took the title in the men's individual demonstration, Kim Un Hwa in the women's individual demonstration, Ri Song Il in the men's individual special technique and Kim Il Hwa in the women's individual special technique. Meanwhile, Kim Il Hwa earned the best prize of individual technique in the championship. The DPRK players returned home Friday. |
