The statement said:

Reviewing proud achievements made in 2016 in his New Year address, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un unfolded an ambitious blueprint for accomplishing the socialist cause under the banner of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.

He put forward the militant slogan "Let us accelerate the victorious advance of socialism with the great spirit of self-reliance and self-development as the dynamic force!" and set forth tasks for the respective sectors to develop the country's overall economy onto a higher plane and improve the people's living standards.

He called for opening up a broad avenue to the independent reunification by a concerted effort of the whole nation in the year of the 45th anniversary of the historic July 4 Joint Statement and the 10th anniversary of the October 4 Declaration.

He clarified the stand of the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the DPRK to make a positive contribution to safeguarding global peace and stability and remain committed to the ideas of the foreign policy of independence, peace and friendship.

He affirmed that the DPRK will continue to build up the self-defence capability as long as the United States and its vassal forces keep on nuclear threat and blackmail.

His New Year address serves as great guidelines for the struggle to build a powerful socialist country and reunify Korea.
