The university is the highest seat of basic science education in the DPRK and a pedigree institution training reserve scientists who would shoulder upon themselves the future of a scientific and technical power.

President Kim Il Sung established the university on Jan. 17, Juche 56 (1967), clearly indicated the orientation and ways to be followed by it and sent valuable equipment and appliances to it on a number of occasions.

Leader Kim Jong Il paid deep attention to its work. He led the university to bring about innovations in training scientific personnel through his meticulous guidance.

It developed into a center for training scientific personnel and prestigious research institution propelling the scientific and technological development of the country through the drive for breaking through the cutting edge remaining true to the intentions of the great leaders under the guidance of the Party.

There took place a meeting to mark its founding anniversary on Monday.

Present there were Choe Thae Bok, vice-chairman of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, Jang Chol, president of the State Academy of Sciences, officials concerned and teachers and students of the university.

A congratulatory letter of the WPK Central Committee to the teachers and students of the university was conveyed at the meeting.
