Rodong Sinmun Urges U.S. to Lift Illegal Sanctions against DPRK

Pyongyang, January 17 (KCNA) -- Successive U.S. administrations have put emphasis on isolating and stifling the DPRK through military threat and sanctions in shaping their policy towards the DPRK and this remains unchanged at present, observes Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a commentary. The commentary goes on: It is more than half a century since the DPRK suffered from U.S. sanctions. Those countries hostile to the DPRK and those ones following the U.S. without any principle have joined the U.S. in its sanctions campaign. Neither the UN Charter nor any international convention stipulates that measures of a sovereign state for bolstering up its self-defence capability are subject to sanctions. The U.S. cooked up absurd anti-DPRK "sanctions resolutions" at the UN, while shelving its nuclear crimes. This is the height of illegal acts. Its actions are a blatant challenge to the vital rights of the Korean people and acts of destroying modern civilization. The U.S. sanctions amount to an inhumane act of going against civilization aimed at bringing the world back to a mediaeval dark era. The U.S. is such mean country that it included rice, daily necessities and even sports apparatuses on the list of sanctions. It is working hard to carry out its more sinister scenario to do harm to the sphere related to the living of the Korean people under the pretext of filling up a "vacuum in sanctions". It is tragedy for the U.S. to foolishly calculate that it can hurt the DPRK through economic sanctions still now. Such desperate efforts of the U.S. would only bring it bitterer shame worldwide. |
