Rodong Sinmun Assails Japanese Reactionaries' Revival of Militarism and Moves for Overseas Expansion
Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- Last year the Japanese reactionaries showed extra zeal for militarization as evidenced by their campaign to instill militarism into Japanese and moves for the revision of the constitution, arms buildup and dispatch of more troops of "Self-Defense Forces" overseas.

Incumbent cabinet ministers and ultra-right lawmakers of Japan busied themselves visiting the Yasukuni Shrine individually or in group on spring and autumn festivals and on the occasion of August 15, the day of Japan's defeat. The Japanese chief executive made ritual offerings to the shrine on each important occasion, agitating the visit to the shrine.

Commenting on these ridiculous behaviors, Rodong Sinmun Wednesday says these are aimed at reviving militarism from A to Z.

The commentary goes on:

Through visits to the shrine the Japanese reactionaries seek to paint their past war of aggression as a "liberation war", war criminals as "heroes" and assailant Japan as "victim" in a bid to stir up revanchism and militarism in the minds of Japanese.

Last year history textbooks which distorted and beautified Japan's past history and unethical crimes passed the screening, causing serious concern of the international community.

What should not be overlooked is that Japan's military expenditure steadily increased for the past five years.

What remains to be done by the Japanese reactionaries rushing headlong into militarism is to remove all the legal and institutional means lying in the way of overseas aggression.

From the outset of the year the Japanese chief executive disclosed several times his sinister intention to revise the present constitution.

These facts go to prove that the hysteria of the Japanese politicians has gone beyond the red line in the moves to revive militarism and wild dream of overseas expansion.

The path chosen by Japan leads to self-destruction. The Japanese reactionaries should bear this in mind and stop such hysteria.
