Murder of Kwangju Uprisers by Machine-gun Strafing Disclosed
Pyongyang, January 26 (KCNA) -- It was disclosed that helicopters machine-gunned to death many citizens at the time of U.S.-backed crackdown on Kwangju Popular Uprising in May 1980, according to south Korean media.

On January 19, the May 18 Institute of Chonnam University made public the records of the situation under the martial law written on May 28, 1980.

The records on the military planes mobilized for the repression of Kwangju Popular Uprising said all kinds of armed helicopters, transport copters, jet transports, etc were involved.

The records said on May 21 alone, several offensive armed helicopters and 10 transport copters were dispatched to Kwangju.

The institute said the time of the helicopters' arrival in Kwangju coincided with the time of machine-gun strafing testified by citizens.

Meanwhile, a scientific investigation institute recently made public a report to the effect that the result of investigation into the 150 marks of shooting by bullets in the upper part of a building in Kumnam-ro indicates the high possibility of being strafed by helicopters, adding this clearly points to the massacre as an undeniable fact.
