Atle Ranjan, secretary of the National Council of the Communist Party of India, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The committee set the celebration period from January 25 to February 16 and decided to organize colorful political and cultural events to praise the exploits performed by Kim Jong Il for socialist construction in the DPRK, independent and peaceful reunification of the country and the human cause of independence in the period.
