Present at the ceremony were Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), vice-chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and vice-chairman of the C.C., WPK, Vice-Premier Ri Ryong Nam, officials concerned and sportspersons.

At the end of the ceremony, there took place a premier basketball men's match between Amnokgang and Kigwancha sports teams.

Participants in the games will compete in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, handball, ice hockey and other events in Pyongyang, Sariwon, Kowon and the sports village in the area of Mt Paektu.
