President Kim Il Sung mapped out a scheme to develop the magnesia clinker industry by comprehensively using magnesite largely deposited in Tanchon area and established a scientific institute specializing in research into fireproof materials on February 8, Juche 56 (1967), setting forth the tasks to be carried out by it.

On May 20, 2009 when visiting the Taehung Youth Hero Mine, leader Kim Jong Il highly appreciated the workers and scientists of the institute who accomplished the Juche-oriented production of magnesite clinker based on local fuel, and encouraged them to work greater feats.

Over the past 50 years, the institute has made big contributions to the development of the country's magnesia clinker industry and the improvement of the people's standard of living.

A meeting took place on Tuesday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the institute.

Conveyed at the meeting was a congratulatory message of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the scientists and employees of the institute.
