Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- After founding the Korean People's Army (KPA), President Kim Il Sung exerted great efforts to organize powerful tank forces and expand them.

He took measures to train core elements and even gave precious instructions on building a tank base and acquiring tank skill on the spot.

Under his care, sons of workers and peasants, who suffered humiliation and insult before the liberation of the country, were trained as tankmen in a little more than few months and the first tank unit came into being in August Juche 37 (1948).

The Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division, the origin of the DPRK's tank forces, performed heroic feats during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953).

The division advanced into Seoul three days after the start of the war, hoisted the DPRK's flag atop the puppet Capital Building and occupied the Seoul broadcasting station to declare the liberation of Seoul.

It killed or injured tens of thousands of enemies in different combats, including the combat to liberate Taejon and destroyed hundreds pieces of ordnances, tanks, armored cars and other combat equipment, producing tens of the DPRK heroes and a number of order-bearers.

Leader Kim Jong Il started his Songun (military-first) revolutionary leadership with the inspection of the division on Aug. 25, 1960.

He inspected the unit on several occasions and said that the division is a guards unit powerful in battle and strong in ideological aspect.

Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of the KPA, visited the unit on Jan. 1, 2012, declaring his steadfast will to accomplish the cause of Songun revolution pioneered and led by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

The Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division is a pride of the heroic KPA as it has taken the lead in safeguarding the Workers' Party of Korea and the leaders in the grim annals of the Korean revolution.
