National Calligraphy Festival Opens

Pyongyang, February 8 (KCNA) -- A national calligraphy festival was opened with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International House of Culture on Wednesday in celebration of the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il. Seen at the venue of the festival is Korean painting "Meeting young wit" depicting President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il seeing calligraphy skill of a schoolgirl with broad smiles on their faces. Displayed at the festival are at least 300 pieces of calligraphic work dealing with aphorisms of the great leaders and new contemporary words in the Songun era, famous compositions and lyric passages written by calligraphers and calligraphy lovers with diverse strokes through their creative activities and at work sites. Present at the opening ceremony were Kim Ki Nam, vice-chairman of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea, and officials concerned, creators, calligraphy lovers, school youth and children and citizens. |
