Pyongyang, February 8 (KCNA) -- After the country's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, President Kim Il Sung directed efforts to found the modern naval force of the Korean People's Army (KPA).

In June Juche 35 (1946), he organized the maritime security force. And he took measures to train naval commanding officers versed in expert skills. He also paid deep attention to the building of warships.

On this basis, he declared the foundation of the KPA Navy on August 28, 1949.

The KPA Navy worked such military miracle as sinking the U.S. heavy cruiser Baltimore and destroying a light cruiser with a few torpedo boats in the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953).

In the 1960s, the KPA Navy captured the U.S. armed spy ship Pueblo, which intruded into the territorial water of the DPRK.

The KPA naval force, founded and developed by President Kim Il Sung, could have remained ever-victorious under the guidance of leader Kim Jong Il.

Ordinary marines rushed into the raging flames to save the trees bearing slogans, eternal assets of the Korean revolution, with their lives and reliably defended the territorial waters of the country by displaying the spirit of becoming human bullets and bombs, the self-blasting spirit, in battles against enemy.

As the KPA upholds respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un as its supreme commander, the naval force equipped with modern offensive and defensive means will always emerge victorious.
