Famous Magician's Family

Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK, there are many families whose members are engaged in same occupations like military service and sports from generation to generation. One of them is a magician's family well-known across the country. The master of the family is Labor Hero Kim Thaek Song, a Kim Il Sung Prize winner and People's Artiste who is working as the head of jugglery department of Pyongyang Acrobatic School. He has two magician sons, Kim Chol and Kim Kwang Chol who are also Kim Il Sung Prize winners and People's Artistes, and grandson Kim Kwang Song who is a student of the training class at Pyongyang Acrobatic School. Kim Thaek Song had enjoyed world-wide fame in the 1970s and the 1980s after taking the first place at the 9th International Modern Magic Festival in Juche 61 (1972). From that time, he had won the every International Modern Magic Festival and was awarded the title of magic king in 1981 and 1985. At the age of 67, he started his career as a teacher to train reserve magicians. Kim Chol, head of the jugglery section of the National Acrobatic Troupe, won the top place for three times at different international magic festivals, including the 19th International Modern Magic Festival in July 1984, and a best prize of technique in 1996. Typical of his products are illusionary juggleries "Girls Reflected in Mirror" and "Warriors". Director Kim Kwang Chol took the first prize and Grand Prix at the International Magic Festival in 1985 and the first prize and the best prize of technique in 1987 and 1989 respectively. |
