Day of Shining Star Observed in Japan
Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- A Japan-DPRK friendship new spring gathering for celebrating the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il, the Day of the Shining Star, was held in Tokyo on February 9.

Present there were Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, Shingo Kanemaru, secretary for policy of Sin Kanemaru, ex-vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, Kenki Nakamura, chairman of the Japan-Korea Society for Scientific and Educational Interchange, and other figures of various circles of Japan and Kenichi Ogami, secretary general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea, Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and officials of Chongryon.

Its participants watched a video introducing the successes achieved in building a socialist power by the Korean army and people under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea last year.

Speeches were made.

Fumihiro Himori said that a great international festival would be held for glorifying the exploits of the peerlessly great persons of Mt Paektu in significant this year marking the 105th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung and the 75th birth anniversary of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, expressing the will to make a positive contribution to the successful holding of the 5th International Festival in Praise of the Great Persons of Mt Paektu.

Nam Sung U referred to the facts that Kim Jong Il made a gigantic contribution to the struggle for the victory in the cause of independence against imperialism and the socialist cause frustrating all sorts of challenges of the imperialists with his unique Songun politics, and his idea and cause are being successfully carried forward by respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

He expressed his will to make efforts for the normalization of the DPRK-Japan relations.
