It was a lifetime desire of President Kim Il Sung and steadfast will of leader Kim Jong Il to build a socialist power of Juche.

When the country was in difficulties in the 1990s, Kim Jong Il created the spirit of Kanggye and kindled the torch of Songgang to provide a springboard to the building of a socialist power.

To effect another great revolutionary upsurge in Kangson where the great Chollima upsurge was witnessed after the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), he visited the Chollima Steel Complex in December Juche 97 (2008) to call upon its workers to take the lead in making another leap in production.

The workers of the complex, encouraged by his patriotic call, sent a letter appealing for a great progress in production to all the working people of the country and worked miracles in the van of general offensive.

In response to their appeal, other working people of the country took a bold jump in the economic construction.

Production went up in major industrial sectors and a great number of industrial establishments overfulfilled their national economic plans and major construction projects progressed apace.

He also made a new history of CNC-based industrialization by overcoming all difficulties in the period of the Arduous March. Later, he recalled those days with deep emotion, saying that the CNC-based industrialization was one of greatest achievement we have made.

Thanks to his far-sighted wisdom and wise leadership, the DPRK could become a space power which develops latest science and technology by its own efforts.

He organized a research group with able scientists and technicians and gave detailed guidance to all problems arising in developing artificial satellite.

Under his wise leadership, the DPRK's first satellite Kwangmyongsong-1 was launched on the threshold of the 50th founding anniversary of the DPRK in 1998 and Kwanmyongsong-2 in April 2009.

Indeed, Kim Jong Il is a peerless patriot and great man who laid a firm foundation for building an economic power by braving the worst ordeals and difficulties.
