Persons of Culture and Arts of Chongryon Meet
Pyongyang, February 16 (KCNA) -- A meeting of persons of culture and arts of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) was held at the Korean Hall in Tokyo on Feb. 9 to glorify this year as the year of praising the great persons and the year of change.

Present there were Pae Ik Ju, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, Kim Song Hun, director of the Department for Publicity and Culture of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon, officials and advisors of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Writers and Artists in Japan, members of the Kumgang-san Opera Troupe and the Korean Song and Dance Ensemble and heads of different culture and art groups and institutes.

Kim Jong Su, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Writers and Artists in Japan, delivered a report.

He said that the members of the Union of Korean Writers and Artists in Japan spurred the patriotic movement by dint of literature and arts by dynamically conducting creative and performing activities, holding exhibitions and carrying out publicity work with deep love for the homeland, compatriots and the younger generations though the Koreans in Japan faced an extremely tense and complicated situation in 2016.

He underscored the need to further increase the role of literature and arts against the backdrop of the ever more undisguised national discrimination of the Japanese authorities against Koreans in Japan and their suppression of national education reaching its height and to create and disseminate successful works which are suited to the desire and sentiments of the compatriots and which encourage them in the patriotic movement.

Then followed speeches.

Prior to the meeting, lyric poems, songs and photos produced by members of the union last year were presented.

Introduced were works presented to the photo exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the enforcement of secondary education for Koreans in Japan.
