DPRK's Principled Stand on UN Charter Clarified
Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- A DPRK delegate recently addressed an annual session of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization.

The delegate clarified the DPRK's principled stand as follows, taking note of the report A/RES/71/146 presented by the special committee to the session:

The DPRK's measure for bolstering up its nuclear force is a legitimate step for self-defense as it is aimed to reliably defend the country's sovereignty and the nation's right to existence from the U.S. and its vassal forces' nuclear war threat and ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula and security in the region.

No one is entitled to fault this legitimate right of a sovereign state.

So far the U.S. and other nations, including the DPRK's neighboring countries, have launched various types of rockets including ICBM in succession.

This being a hard fact, the UN Security Council has adopted illegal "sanctions resolutions" against the DPRK in which they condemned the latter's nuclear test for self-defense, launches of satellites for peaceful purposes and regular launches of ballistic rockets as "threats to world peace and security" without any international legal ground. Yet, it showed double-standards of keeping mum about the U.S. and other countries' tests.

The UNSC should no longer allow the acts of the U.S. abusing the UN as a theatre of high-handed and arbitrary practices but realize the UN's democratization with the reform of its Security Council as a key point, as required by world society.

It is a very urgent issue to avert the danger of a war and defend peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

Every year the U.S. conducts, under the pretext of "annual and defensive", several large-scale joint military drills, nuclear war drills for bringing down a member of the UN, quite contrary to the purpose and principle of the UN Charter. What matters is that such war exercises are openly staged under the signboard of "UN Command"

The "UN Command" should be dismantled without delay in view of recovering the political entity and fame of the UN and in view of ensuring peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the Asian-Pacific region.

The reality proves once again that the democratization of the UN should be realized as soon as possible as required by world community.
