Committee for Erecting Girl Statue of Peace Formed in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations, students organizations, schoolchildren's organizations, lawmakers, elders, citizens and other people from all walks of life in Kwangju City of south Korea formed a promotion committee for erecting a girl statue of peace in the North District of Kwangju with due ceremony on Feb. 22, according to the south Korean online paper Jaju Sibo.

Speakers at the inaugural ceremony noted that they organized a preparatory committee at the end of last year and, since then, have conducted information activities for settling the issue of sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army and achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The organization decided to erect the girl statue of peace on August 15 in order to lay bare the Japanese imperialists' history of aggression and hype the meaning of Korea's liberation, division and peaceful reunification.
