Stop to Joint Military Drills Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- According to the south Korean online newspaper Tongil News, 38 civic and social organizations of south Korea including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification and the Solidarity for Progress held a press conference in Seoul on March 1 in protest against the U.S. and south Korean warmongers' war exercises for aggression.

At the conference speakers expressed concern, saying that the deployment of nuclear strategic assets and typical preemptive strike weapons is expected in view of news that two nuclear carriers are to be rarely involved in the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military drills.

They claimed that the joint military exercises increase the danger of a nuclear war and escalate mistrust and confrontation on the Korean Peninsula and thus make the settlement of a nuclear issue and achievement of peace difficult.

They charged that the growing military tension due to the joint military exercises only offers an opportunity and pretext to the U.S. and Japan to build a missile shield and alliance in Northeast Asia.

They urged an immediate stop to the illegal joint military drills, saying that frequent saber-rattling of south Korea and the U.S. against the DPRK would only invite the latter's strong counter-action.
