Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- A national meeting took place at the Central Youth Hall Tuesday to mark the 100th birth anniversary of revolutionary martyr O Jin U. O Jin U was born into a poor peasant's family on March 8, Juche 6 (1917). After embarking on the road of the revolution in his teens, he worked as a member of the Children's Vanguard and the Anti-Japanese Self-defence Corps and later was admitted into the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army. Under the warm loving care shown by President Kim Il Sung, he grew up to be a commanding officer of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army and fully displayed matchless sacrificing spirit and bravery in the hard-fought anti-Japanese war for the liberation of the country. Upholding the line on building the party, state and the army set forth by Kim Il Sung after the liberation of the country, he devoted himself to the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea and the regular armed forces and their development. During the Fatherland Liberation War, he, as a commanding officer of a combined force of the Korean People's Army, led the unit to annihilate enemies through skilled operations and command, thus making a great contribution to the victory in the war. He held important posts as vice-minister of National Defence, president of Kim Il Sung Military University, minister of the People's Armed Forces and first vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK. He reliably protected with arms the party and the leader and worked hard for the reunification and prosperity of the country. Vice Marshal of the Korean People's Army Ri Myong Su, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and chief of the KPA General Staff, said in his report that the revolutionary life of O Jin U was a brilliant one of a true revolutionary who defended the idea and guidance of the Party and the leader with arms and dedicated his all to the victory of the cause of the Juche revolution and the cause of the Songun revolution and showed in practice how one should hold the illustrious leaders in high esteem. The reporter stressed that the gem-like loyalty and traits as a revolutionary displayed by O Jin U in upholding President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il with clean conscience would be always remembered by the service personnel and civilians of the country along with the victorious advance of the Korean revolution. |
