On the basis of the information on precipitation, water level and opening and closing of floodgates gathered by modern automatic observation apparatus, it was made possible to exactly forecast flood and properly control floodgates.

They also developed an optimum water-control aid system helpful to ensure safe power production at cascade power stations built along the River Chongchon and made achievements in developing a flood-control aid system.

And they established a tideland reclamation aid system based on e-map to put the survey of tideland and design and construction of sea dyke on a modern and IT basis.

They are pushing ahead with researches into making artificial seawater and harnessing ocean current, wave and tide energies.
